Millgate House is community housing located in Portsmouth. This is the first project in part of a city-wide rollout to introduce new lighting schemes to ensure the area feels more appealing and is safer after dark.

The primary objective of the design initiative was to introduce a fresh, dynamic, and vibrant lighting scheme for the building, aimed at enhancing the sense of safety and attractiveness in the area during nighttime. To bring this vision to reality, ECS collaborated with the designer, supplier, and lighting manufacturer LEDextra, which is a part of the Dextra Group plc. In this partnership, LEDextra supplied the necessary fittings, while ECS took charge of commissioning the system.

The implemented lighting system relies on Traxon e:cue Dynamic Control for programming and managing dynamic coloured lighting schemes. As a result, the building now boasts a vividly illuminated façade, creating a striking visual impact during the dark hours. This innovative system provides the building facilities manager with the capability to remotely and effortlessly control all aspects of the lighting. Additionally, dynamic light settings can be pre-programmed, contributing to enhanced efficiency and adaptability.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Alex Martin, Dextra Group Director, expressed satisfaction with ECS as the chosen entity to commission and program the new system. He highlighted the modern, efficient, and user-friendly nature of the system, allowing the facilities manager easy control over the dynamic lighting of the building. The positive impact of the new lighting scheme is evident in the increased sense of safety and welcome it provides to residents and others in the surrounding area, creating an eye-catching effect that captures attention.
