Architectural lighting specialist ECS is overjoyed to announce that Copacabana Palace, a project they are proud to have commissioned, has been awarded the MONDO-DR in the 2024 Hotel category.
Since 2017, the MONDO-DR Awards has celebrated the best installation projects from around the world and recognises the installers and system integrators who make these projects come to life. 2024 saw a record number of entries across 16 categories, and Copacabana Palace came out on top against a high calibre of competition in the new Hotel category. The winners were announced in Las Vegas in June, as part of the InfoComm show, welcoming over 300 people to the rooftop terrace.
The luxurious Belmond Copacabana Palace hotel sits on the seafront in Rio de Janeiro. The resort offers elegant amenities for guests to experience, including elegant guest suites, a variety of high-end dining and drinking venues, and a large swimming pool. Recently, the hotel embarked on a spectacular journey to celebrate its centenary, illuminating its façade with a breathtaking display of dynamic lighting. The visionary LD Studio, in collaboration with LED specialists Tryka, Pharos, and the skilled hands of ECS, transformed the hotel’s exterior into a mesmerising spectacle.
The system utilises DMX technology, enabling the façade to be changed to different colours, patterns and themes, triggered by an iPad touch interface.
The façade, adorned with architectural linear marvels such as Stripline45, Stripline AG, Aura 5, and Aura 7 LEDs, now dances with vibrant colours and themes. Controlled by a state-of-the-art DMX system and the LPC2 from Pharos Architectural Controls, the lighting can be transformed at will, offering a dynamic canvas that evolves with the hotel’s spirit.
ECS, entrusted with the commissioning of the lighting scheme, meticulously tested and programmed the system, ensuring flawless execution. The team’s journey to Rio de Janeiro culminated in the realisation of a lighting masterpiece, ready to celebrate diverse occasions – from Carnival to Christmas – in a radiant symphony.
